*2011-09-25**NRMI: NATURAL RESOURCE MONITORING ITEMS OF INTEREST*

This Issue: */CO_2 Sequestration (Part 3 of 4) /*and Some Other Good Things

*BUT FIRST, WON'T YOU PLEASE HELP?*

*Estimating Bamboo Biomass* -- Dr. Timothy Gregoire writes, /I need to
come up with a way to assess bamboo biomass in Bhutan NFI. I know next
to nothing about the topic!/ Tim is especially interested in anything
that has been done to date anywhere in any region of the world. If you
can assist, please contact Tim at timothy.gregoire at yale.edu
<mailto:timothy.gregoire at yale.edu>.

*Identifying Dominant Land Use*-- I am working on a paper comparing land
cover and land use. While the web is full of material on determining
land cover, land use is more of a challenge. If you know of any good
references on determining land use from remote sensing or other sources
in addition to through land cover, would you kindly let me know. Thank
you in advance for your kind assistance. Cheers, Gyde (gyde at comcast.net
<mailto:gyde at comcast.net>)

*Sustainable Forest Resources Management Planning*--**Matteo Mura
writes/, I am an Italian graduate in forestry and environmental science.
I am searching scholarship to do a PhD in forestry focused on
sustainable forest resources management planning and tools to implement
it, mainly remote sensing, GIS, growth & yield modelling and so on. I
find that much of the information I have access to is unclear,
repetitive and outdated. /If you can help Matteo, please contact him at
mur.teo at gmail.com <mailto:mur.teo at gmail.com>/./

*CO_2 SEQUESTRATION (Part 3 of 4)/- /*Last summer I was seeking any
publications on what various countries are doing in regard to carbon
sequestration activities involving forests. I was particularly
interested in those that applied to Costa Rica. Here are some sites that

Forests, Woodlands, and Communities through Biomass Use*. Utah State

much-needed fuel for renewable energy. Talks will focus on how biomass
harvest can occur in ways that improve the ecological and financial
feasibility of restoration projects. The conference will have a dual
focus on the ecological effects of woody biomass harvest, and the
technology of woody biomass harvest and use. Discussions will appeal to
land managers and owners, researchers, and business people. For more
