*CARBON MAPPING AND ALLOMETRIC EQUATIONS (Part 2 of 3). *Earlier this
month**Yogendra Kumar Karna wrote, "I am doing my MSc research in
_Carbon mapping_ for tropical forests in Chitwan districts of Nepal. So
I am desperately searching for _allometric equations_ of some of the
major forest tree species of Nepal. These tree species are as following:
Asna/Saj - /Terminalia tomentosa, /Bhalayo - /Semecarpus anacardium,
/Botdhangeo - /Lagerstroemia parviflora, /Sal - /Shorea robusta,
/Chilaun/e - Schima wallichii, /and Sindure - /Mallotus philippensis.
/If someone will provide me these equations, I would be very grateful to
them. Thanking you". Here are some sites that may be of interest. If you

*Authors Sought -*The */Journal of Biodiversity and Ecological Sciences
(JBES)/* is a specialized one whose first issue was sent out in winter,
2011. It publishes its articles using an open access publication
strategy; that is to say, all interested readers are able to freely
access the journal online without the need for a subscription available
on: http://www.JBES.ir. We would like to invite you to submit your
article to our journal which provides a forum for the publication of
original research articles, review articles, case reports, research
notes, technical reports and other studies related to aspects of
Biodiversity and Ecology including Plant Biodiversity, Carbon Pool and
Carbon Cycle , Soil Ecology and Pedodiversity , Soil Seed Bank , Carbon
Sequestration , Forest Ecology , Succession , Conservation Ecology ,
Ecological Modeling , Soil Biology , Plant Ecology , Landscape Ecology ,
Geostatistics , Ecological Capability Evaluation , and Silviculture. The
published paper in this journal is free of charge without any page fee.
The journal has a distinguished international editorial board with
extensive academic qualifications, ensuring that the journal maintains
high scientific standards and has a broad international coverage. A
current list of the journal's editors can be found at:
http://www.jbes.ir .Manuscripts should be submitted to the journal by
email: info at jebs.ir <mailto:info at jebs.ir> (In word format). Once a
manuscript has been accepted for publication, it will undergo language
editing, typesetting, and reference validation by the journal editorial
office in order to provide the highest publication quality possible.

*Consultant Sought -*To assist with FAO's growing portfolio of forestry
projects, the Forestry Department is looking for a consultant with
strong English language drafting skills and knowledge of spreadsheets to
assist with writing project concept notes, project documents,
development of budgets and project monitoring. Experience of developing
GEF projects would be particularly desirable, as this is likely to be a
major focus of the work. The post will be based in Rome, for 11 months
(with possibility of extension) with a salary based on qualifications
and experience (but likely to be around EUR 5,000/month).Full Terms of

(available at:
http://www.fao.org/fileadmin/user_upload/Employment/ADM11E.DOT) and
submit it to Adrian Whiteman (adrian.whiteman at fao.org). Closing date for
applications is 30 December 2011 and we would expect this person to
start sometime in January next year. From Adrian Whiteman, FAO>

*Two PhD Opportunities in UCD Forestry*: i) forest management & ii)
social forestry, The University College Dublin, Ireland (UCD) Forestry
research group focuses on developing solutions to problems associated
with changes in the economic, environmental and social context in which
forestry operates. UCD Forestry comprises five core and one affiliated
academic staff, one research manager, two postdoctoral researchers, two
research assistants, 21 PhDs and one MSc student. UCD Forestry is
recruiting two PhD candidates to conduct research in the area of
optimized (forest) land-use in Ireland. The research focus will be on
addressing the challenges resulting from the competition of different
demands for multiple (forest) ecosystem goods and services under
changing environmental, economic and social conditions. This research is
part of the EU-funded FP7 collaborative project "Future-oriented
integrated management of European forest landscapes" (the INTEGRAL
project). The two PhD students will work (together) on two
landscape-level case studies in Ireland. One student (job ref INTEGRAL
PhD.01) will focus on forest management decision support systems for
multi-criteria decision making and the other (job ref INTEGRAL PhD.02)
on social forestry, especially participatory decision making and
planning methods and processes. Both students will be expected to attend
INTEGRAL project meetings in Europe and present their work to European
audiences. Preferred Selection Criteria: INTEGRAL PhD.01: BSc and MSc
which together cover the following disciplines: forest science or a
related field, computer programming and the development of GIS-based
decision support tools; INTEGRAL PhD.02: BSc and MSc which together
cover the following disciplines: forestry or related field, social
forestry, environmental governance, land-use policy and planning, and
social or political sciences. Both positions: capable of independent
research and team work. Be prepared to work together during parts of the
research. Very good oral and written communication skills in English are
mandatory. A clean driving licence is desirable. Both PhD positions are
available for 3.5 years. Start of the work contract is as soon as
possible but no later than 16 January 2012. The (tax-free) scholarship
will be EUR16,000 per year and EU-level tuition fees (EUR5,800 in
2011/12) are paid by the project. Each student will be registered for
the PhD degree with University College Dublin. The research should
result in the successful defence of a PhD thesis in 3.5 years.
Application process: Indicate in your application the position for which
you are applying (INTEGRAL PhD.01 or INTEGRAL PhD.02). The application
deadline is 9 December 2011. Applications from non-EU citizens should
include evidence of access to funding to pay the higher tuition fees
(EUR11,600 in 2011/12). We will acknowledge all applications, but we
will contact only short-listed candidates. Please send your CV and a
cover letter (in which you explain why you are interested in the
position and why you should be selected for the position) to: Prof.
Maarten Nieuwenhuis, E-Mail: maarten.nieuwenhuis at ucd.ie for INTEGRAL
PhD.01 and to Dr Aine Ni Dhubhain INTEGRAL PhD.02. Additional
information about the INTERGRAL project and/or the PhD position can be
obtained from the above contacts. For more information about UCD
Forestry go to http://www.ucd.ie/agfood/ucdforestry. More information
about the INTEGRAL project may be found at
http://cordis.europa.eu/fp7/projects_en.html, From Charles Harper via
