Intern - FedNor Youth Internship Program</span></b><span

will assist in the coordination and operation of research
activities in the
Forest Resources Laboratory (FRL). The responsibilities of the
intern would
mainly include carrying out wood sample processing and analysis
in the
laboratory, supporting a new project focused on identifying
relationships
between wood fibre properties, growth rates and ecological site
conditions for
important boreal forest tree species such as Black Spruce and
Jack Pine.
Specific duties will include, sectioning, mounting and
macerating specimens,
acquiring images from the confocal microscope, analyzing images
using WinCell
software and managing the project database. The intern may also
assist with
coordinating use and maintenance of laboratory equipment (e.g.
WinDendro
dendrochronological analysis station), supervising and training
undergraduate
research assistants, and organizing dendrochronological sample

possible the intern would be encouraged to contribute to oral
and written
communications of project progress and results in the form of

possess a Bachelor of Science, or Bachelor of Arts, degree in
Biology,
Geography, Forestry, or related discipline. Knowledge of the
scientific method
and standard laboratory protocols and experience working in the
laboratory
and/or field engaged in research are considered assets. As per
FedNor’s funding
guidelines, the successful candidate will be an unemployed or
underemployed
youth (under the age of 30) who has graduated with a degree or
diploma from a
post secondary institution within the last three years, is
legally entitled to
work in Canada, and who has not been previously employed under a
FedNor Youth
Internship funding agreement, or other federal or provincial
internship with
pay for a period of six (6) months or more. The hourly wage for
this position
is $15.25, which includes 4% vacation pay. Review of
