This Issue: */Biodiversity Certification /*and Some Other Good Things

*BIODIVERSITY CERTIFICATION --*In July, John Alexander Pulgarín D asked,
"Does anyone knows a certification for biodiversity recovery as those
proposed for CO_2 deposits and FSC? I would like to certify some areas
for biodiversity recovery, soil recovery, erosion control, CO_2 capture,
ecological niche maintenance for fauna, and other forest ambient
services." Here are some sites that may be of interest. If you know of
others, please contact John at jalexanderpulgarin at gmail.com

*Data manager position, Ireland -*A vacancy exists for the position of
data manager with the nationally funded NATFOREX project "Establishing a
National Resource of Field Trials and a Data Base for Forest Research
and Demonstration". Job ref is 004714. Applications must be via the
online system at http://www.ucd.ie/hr/jobvacancies/. From Charles

*Postdoctoral Associate Position Available in GISc/Remote Sensing*- One
Postdoctoral Associate Position is open at the Department of
Environmental Resources Engineering at the State University of New York
College of Environmental Science and Forestry starting September 2011 or
later. The candidate will be involved in developing novel spatiotemporal
remote sensing classifiers working at Landsat to MODIS spatial
resolutions using advanced machine learning methods (e.g. decision
trees, neural networks) suited for wide-area mapping (e.g. national
scale). An additional goal is to produce spatially-explicit accuracy
metrics to facilitate further usage of the results by non-experts. The
candidate is expected to lead the preparation of peer-reviewed journal
papers, project reports, and conference and outreach presentations. To
apply for the position, please visit:
