*COMPARISON OF TREES GROWN W/O HERBICIDE TREATMENT/-- /*This past
February, David Robinson wrote, /Is anyone aware of studies comparing
trees grown w/o herbicide treatment v. trees with treatment? I know
there is a visible comparison after just the first few years because of
the lack of competition from grasses, etc. but I was talking with
someone that seemed to remember something several years ago showing
really no difference as the years go by.... and of course the lack of
plant diversity should be taken into account as well.../. Here are some
sites that may be of interest. If you know of others, please contact

*PhD Fellowships in Remote Sensing*- Virginia Tech (USA) - PhD
Fellowships in Remote Sensing are available immediately in Virginia
Tech's new Interdisciplinary Graduate Program. Remote Sensing is an
interdisciplinary field which is evolving rapidly as more and more
techniques are developed and implemented to address a wide range of
scientific and societal problems. Virginia Tech's new remote sensing
graduate curriculum spans multiple departments, including courses in
electrical engineering, computer engineering, forestry, geography,
history, economics, computer science, and statistics. Research
opportunities exist within the Center for Space Science and Engineering
Research (Space at VT) and the Center for Environmental Applications of
Remote Sensing (CEARS). Interested applicants are encouraged to visit
http://rsigep.frec.vt.edu/ to learn more about specific research
opportunities, the application process, and to communicate with
prospective advisors. General questions can be directed to Dr. Joseph
Baker (jo.baker at vt.edu <mailto:jo.baker at vt.edu>) or Dr. Valerie Thomas
(thomasv at vt.edu <mailto:thomasv at vt.edu>). From Artur Gil, Applied GIS RS
